Ruth Linnen began her practice in psychotherapy in 1996. She is the founder and owner of CPCC. She is a Registered Psychotherapist with a focus on trauma consultation, assessment, treatment and training. Ruth began her professional development in the area of trauma in 2001 when she obtained training in Critical Incident Stress Management (Advanced). In 2004 she attended the Hincks Dell crest Centre where she completed Trauma Counselling for Front Line workers. Her interest in working with those impacted by trauma (acute, complex, developmental) took her to London Health Sciences where she completed a nine-month program in a group model of Trauma Recovery. Her time at London Health Sciences included consultation with Dr. Ruth Lanius, and the opportunity to observe Dr. Lanius' research involving MRI scans examining the impact of trauma on the brain.
Ruth added Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA , Level II) to her professional portfolio in 2015. She completed Dialectic Behavioural Therapy in 2015, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in 2016, and became a Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist in 2018. Ruth completed the Advanced Master Program on the Treatment of Trauma at the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine in 2023.
Ruth completed the clinical supervision course at Wilfrid Laurier in 2018, and expanded her clinical supervision knowledge with the completion of the clinical supervision course at the Canadian Association of Psychoanalytic Child Therapists and Canadian Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in 2020.
In her private practice she also offers Family, Couples, Individual, and Group therapy.
Ruth was a primary mental health clinician with CMHA for 19 years providing assessment, treatment, training, and consultation in various areas of mental health including mood disorders, psychosis, and trauma. Her role at CMHA also included program development, training of colleagues in trauma, the provision of psychotherapy groups, and clinical supervision of students.
Ruth provides training workshops and program development to various community partners including Child/Adult mental health, CISM Peer Teams, Community Living, Child Welfare and, First Nation Communities.
Ruth is currently working on a trauma-based manual, Repairing Trauma & Reclaiming Authentic Self: An Approach to Trauma Recovery. This manual is based on her experience working in the field of trauma and is mostly informed by the extraordinary work of the clients she has had the privilege to have encountered in her profession as a therapist.
